Abaribe: Real Reason Igbos Voted For Peter Obi

All Progressive Grand Alliance lawmaker representing Abia South senatorial district, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has opened up on what he believes is the reason why a significant number of Igbos voted for Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections.
Speaking on why, he said Igbo voters didn’t choose Obi based on tribalism but because they viewed him as the most competent among all the candidates who contested in the February 25 poll.
He made the clarification in a recent interview on Signature TV.
“No, Igbos didn’t vote for him (Peter Obi) because he was Igbo; they voted for him because they saw him as the best candidate.
“I am open to challenges from anyone. This is why his appeal extended beyond the Igbo community and resonated nationwide,” he replied when questioned about whether Igbos voted for Obi solely based on tribalism.
Obi is currently challenging President Bola Tinubu’s victory before the Presidential Election Tribunal Court (PEPC), urging the tribunal to issue an order directing INEC to present him with a certificate of return as the duly elected president of Nigeria.
As it stands, parties are still waiting for the date the Tribunal will decide the fate of the three leading candidates in the last presidential election
