SO SAD!! 1 Person Dead, Another Hospitalised As Meningitis Hits Kaduna



As Meningitis continues to ravaged Nigeria with over 400 people dead, Kaduna state has recorded the first victims of the disease in the state.
According, to a report sent in by Naijaloaded regional reporter Bashir Ahmed, the two cases reported in Kaduna came from the most populous neighborhood called, Makera, Rigasa, where two boys, aged between 5 to 10 years were infected with the disease.
One of them died before he was taken to hospital, while the other has been isolated and is currently receiving treatment at Yusuf Dantsoho Hospital, popularly known as(Asibitin Dutse).
A staff of the hospital who begged to be anonymous told Naijaloaded correspondent that this is the first case of meningitis that have been taken to the hospital and immediately the boy was hospitalised, they hospital took their medical team with the meningitis vaccine to the Makera Rigasa, and distributed it to the people living in the same house and neighborhood with the boy.
Naijaloaded spoke to the district head of Rigasa, Makera, Abdulwahab Umar, who confirmed that one boy died and another one is hospitalised at Yusuf Dantsoho Hospital (Asibitin Dutse).
Umar also said after the boy was taken to the hospital, medical team arrived and told them it was Gov. Nasir El-rufai that sent them to distribute meningitis vaccine to people.
Umar also said: “They gave more than 10,000 people the vaccine, and we appreciate it, but we are calling on government both federal and state to please do more and stop any project that is being carried out in this area of Kaduna, what we need now is treatment and vaccine of malaria and meningitis, because here we have more than 2 million people living in Rigasa and people need health care more than any other thing, especially because of our population.”
Meanwhile, two residents of Lagos state have now been confirmed dead from meningitis currently spreading across the country.
Three cases are said to have been recorded in the state. While two died, the third victim is being closely monitored.
This is as the death rate from the disease has risen from 336 to 438 according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.
